According to an arrest report at the Kingsport Police Department, at 3:24 Monday afternoon officers responded to the wreck on John B. Dennis Highway. Near the southbound exit to Fort Henry Drive they found a 1997 Honda Accord had struck a light pole, knocking it completely down.
According to witness statements to police, the Honda's occupant was "driving very poorly," just prior to the crash. An officer spoke with the driver, Terri L. Pendergrass, 48, of 420 Sequoyah Drive, noting that she, "appeared to be very disoriented."
Pendergrass, who was not injured in the crash, reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests. According to the report, she then told police she had taken a 10 mg Lortab and 10 mg Ambien earlier in the day. A check of her license status revealed it was revoked, and she allegedly told police she had no car insurance.
Pendergrass agreed to take a blood test at Indian Path Medical Center, and was then transported to the Kingsport City Jail.
