ERWIN — The recent stoppage of process lines at Nuclear Fuel Services has led officials there to announce the temporary layoffs of around 150 hourly employees.

NFS spokeswoman Lauri Turpin said during what is referred to as a vacation shutdown/temporary layoff, the employees will be sent home for a three-week period.

Turpin said the action would affect around 150 of NFS’s approximately 400 hourly employees. During the first week of the vacation shutdown/temporary layoff, employees with vacation time will be able to use it, Turpin said. The following two weeks, employees affected will be able to draw unemployment benefits.
