According to The Tennessean, in the days after Tom Truitt was robbed at gunpoint in front of his Richland Avenue home last September, he was shocked to discover that the alleged mugger should have been serving an eight-year jail term for a serious crime he was convicted of two years earlier.

Truitt called Metro police asking how the man suspected in the robbery, 17-year-old David Springer, could have been released so early. Officials told him the problem resided in the halls of the General Assembly, not with law enforcement."They said, 'It's the political system where you've got a beef.' "
