The woman arrested following a weekend stabbing in Kingsport was searching for her boyfriend, according to a police report, and may have used a steak knife as her weapon.

Early Sunday morning the Kingsport Police Department issued a press release on the incident, which occurred late Saturday night. They reported that Rhonda Morelock, 44, of 1268 Burwind Drive, apartment no. 14, had been arrested and charged with aggravated assault.

The press release said Morelock had stabbed a man, identified as Shane Pryde, during an argument outside of 808 Burwind Court, apartment no. 3. Pryde was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center, where he underwent surgery to treat a single stab wound to the lower abdomen.

On Monday morning a Wellmont spokesman said he was in fair condition.

According to an incident report filed at the police department, Pryde said Morelock had come to his residence searching for her boyfriend. The report does not identify the boyfriend, who Pryde told police was indeed inside his residence.

Pryde told police that Morelock was beating on his door, so he answered it to tell her to leave. At that point Morelock, "stabbed him with what he believed to be a steak knife," according to the police report, then ran away from the residence.

One officer responding to the scene believed Morelock may have ran to hide in nearby woods, "as she had done this before on previous calls." However, police found no footprints in the snow, and began looking elsewhere.

Morelock was later found in the laundry room of 800 Burwind Court. According to the police incident report, she had an odor of alcoholic beverages, slurred speech and a can of beer in her jacket pocket.

Police say they searched the area for the weapon allegedly used in the attack, but it could not be located.
