A Knox County Sheriff's Office deputy was arrested at work Wednesday on charges that she stole a woman's identity and used it to buy thousands of dollars worth of furniture from at least one store, authorities said.
Deputy Michelle Stiles, 38, who resigned from her position as a patrol officer after her arrest, was charged with identity theft and forgery as the result of a criminal investigation by the Knoxville Police Department's Property Crimes Unit, authorities said. She was taken into custody about 11:15 a.m. at the Sheriff's Office.
She is also under investigation for other possible acts of identity theft, said KPD spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
