Witness testifies 'cops shot first'

KINGSTON - Anne Watts watched the bullets fly but swears she didn't put the bloody picture together until hours later.

By then she faced an FBI agent, with armed officers on every side.

"That's when it hit me," she testified Friday. "I had four armed men in my house with my four boys in the bedroom. I was petrified.

"I didn't know what to say. The cops shot first."

Watts took the stand to describe for the third time how the shoot-out started that killed Roane County Deputy Bill Jones and ride-along Mike Brown, a former police officer. Leon Houston, 50, faces two counts of first-degree murder in the May 11, 2006, gun battle in front of his home south of the Tennessee River.

Prosecutors say the deputy went there to serve a warrant. Houston and his younger brother, Rocky Joe, say he came to kill them. They claim self-defense.
