ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Engineers have established a $2 million to $10 million plan to clean up a rock slide on Interstate 40 near the North Carolina-Tennessee line.

North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue is expected to declare an emergency, which will allow the state to ask for federal funding for the cleanup, North Carolina Department of Transportation officials said Tuesday.

The rock slide occurred about 2 a.m. Sunday near the Tennessee line, dumping rocks as large as mobile homes and closing I-40 in both directions.
