Johnny Summers Cavin, 33, 5843 Stardust Road, Kingsport, had been serving time on unrelated offenses in Sullivan County. Cavin was never formally charged on the cocaine delivery charges, which date back to September and December 2007.
Those charges were presented to the most recent grand jury, which indicted Cavin on one count of delivery of cocaine more than a half gram, one count of delivery of cocaine less than a half gram, and one count of delivery of a counterfeit substance that was intended to look like cocaine.
Cavin is accused in three separate Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Unit cases including allegedly delivering seven-tenths of a gram of cocaine to a confidential informant on Sept. 25, 2007.
He is also accused of delivering two-tenths of a gram of cocaine to a confidential informant on Dec. 12, 2007.
The third offense related to Cavin’s alleged delivery on Dec. 12, 2007, of two-tenths of a gram of a “rock like substance that was represented to be a controlled substance” which looked similar to cocaine, to a confidential informant.
Cavin will be arraigned in Hawkins County Criminal Court on Friday. He was lodged in the Hawkins County Jail on $80,000 bond.
The most serious charge is delivery of cocaine more than a half gram, which is a Class B felony punishable by eight to 12 years in prison.
