KINGSPORT — A Gate City man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly admitting to police he was going to “wave” a loaded gun at other motorists in Kingsport.

The man’s actions were reportedly prompted by an earlier road rage incident.

According to an incident report from the Kingsport Police Department, the arrest occurred at 1015 Globe St. about 3 a.m. The report does not state if the suspect’s vehicle was pulled over or found parked at the side of the road.

The driver, Brandon Wayne Graham, 19, of 191 Panther Drive, Gate City, allegedly spoke with slurred speech. Police said he also let several seconds pass between his sentences and had to “rock himself back and forth” to rise out of his seat.

Police said Graham stumbled out of his vehicle and grabbed its door to avoid falling down. When police asked if he had any items they should know about, Graham allegedly replied a bowl, or marijuana pipe, was in his front pocket. Police said he admitted to smoking marijuana.

Along with the pipe, police also located a black .22-caliber handgun under the vehicle’s passenger seat. Police report the gun had five bullets in the clip, one in the chamber, and that the hammer was pulled.

Graham allegedly admitted to owning the gun and said he had retrieved it because someone had tried to run him off the road.

According to the police report, Graham stated “he was only going to wave the weapon” at the other motorists.

Graham was charged with going armed, possession of a firearm by an intoxicated person, public intoxication, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the Kingsport jail without incident.
