Surgoinsville Riverfront Festival kicks off with Medallion Hunt

Jeff Bobo • Sep 20, 2009 at 12:00 AM

SURGOINSVILLE — This year’s two-day Surgoinsville Riverfront Festival kicks off Friday morning at the Riverfront Park, but the fun actually begins today with the first of five daily Medallion Hunt contests.

Every morning this week through Friday, there will be a clue released via radio, the Internet and at City Hall regarding the location of a medallion. The finder of that medallion wins $50, and on Saturday there will be a $100 drawing among the five winners from earlier in the week.

Listen for the clues on WRGS radio in Rogersville at 6:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Clues can also be obtained at City Hall or on the Web site www.surgoinsvilleriverfrontfestival.com.

The Medallion Hunt contest is sponsored by Contour Industries.

The first clue is, “Stop and sit a while.”

This year’s festival begins Friday at 10 a.m. with many of the regular attractions including children’s rides, games, food, live music, a car show, block party, fishing tournament, arts and crafts and fireworks.

The theme for this year’s festival is appreciation to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency for providing the town with a 25-year lease for the Riverfront Park where the festival takes place.

On Friday at 3 p.m. there will be a ceremony held at the park including several local, state and TWRA dignitaries making the lease official. The festival will also include a TWRA Expo, which will feature numerous demonstrations, displays and educational programs associated with the TWRA. For more details, see the festival Web site or call City Hall at 345-2213.
