Medical schools flooded with donated bodies; cash strapped families can't afford funerals, burials

According to a report in the Tennessean, so many families that find themselves unable to pay for a funeral and burial have donated the bodies to science that Vanderbilt School of Medicine and the University of Tennessee Body Farm have stopped accepting cadaver donations.Cities across the U.S. are reporting morgues at capacity because families can't afford funerals. In Los Angeles, for example, the number of indigent deaths doubled from the last six months of 2008 to the first six months of 2009, forcing the county crematory to turn away bodies.In Nashville, when families can't afford a decent burial for their loved ones, Metro's social services department steps in.CLICK HERE for the full report.
