Woman rescued from SUV after floodwaters sweep it off the road in Greene County

The Greeneville Sun is reporting that flash flood waters caused by heavy rain from a slow-moving thunderstorm washed a sport utility vehicle off the road just Monday night and trapped its driver inside the vehicle for a while.Tim Troutman, warning coordination meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Morristown, said radar showed that as much as three and three-quarters inches of rain fell in the northeastern Greene County area in about an hour.Deputy Sheriff Robert Livingston said Tuesday that he and several units of the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad responded to a report that a woman was trapped inside a vehicle along Nelse Roberts Road off the Horton Highway in northeastern Greene County.By the time he arrived the water had receded somewhat and he was able to help the woman from her stalled Jeep Cherokee.The woman, who resides on Rattlesnake Ridge Road off the Horton Highway, was uninjured, but was shaken by the incident.CLICK HERE for the full report.
