According to a report by the Tennessean Doc Holliday's Saloon has a sign over the bar that says "Please Check Your Guns at the Door." That used to be part of the decor, but now it signals a political stance. Josh Green says his place is a quiet, mostly local haunt, but he has shut the bar down a couple of times when violence has heated up a few blocks down. He can't imagine ever willingly letting someone into his bar with a sidearm. The 'check your gun' sign is in response to a law allowing permit holders to carry guns in places that serve liquor: The law goes into effect on July 14.
