GM will keep both Greeneville dealerships open

Staff Report • May 18, 2009 at 12:00 AM

According to the Greeneville Sun both Greeneville General Motors automotive dealerships -- Bachman-Bernard Auto Mall and Lawson Chevrolet -- have received the good news that they had "made the cut" with the automotive giant.Friday was a tense day at General Motors dealerships across the nation as the company notified 1,100 of its U.S. dealers by letter or telephone that financially-stressed GM would not be renewing its sales and service agreement with those 1,100 after the current agreements expire in September 2010.But in Greeneville, no dealer-discontinuance letters were received, and, as confirmation of the apparent good news, both local dealers received telephone assurance that their status as GM dealers would continue.Myron Bernard, co-owner of Bachman-Bernard Auto Mall, told The Greeneville Sun in a telephone interview that a General Motors representative had confirmed to him in a telephone conversation that Bachman-Bernard was not on the list of dealerships to be discontinued. In a separate telephone interview with the Sun, Lennie Lawson said that he also had received assurance from GM in a telephone call.
