Ex-Sullivan Central teacher denies charges of inappropriate sexual contact with 16 year-old girl

According to a report in the Bristol Herald Courier a former Sullivan Central High School teacher has pleaded not guilty to charges he had inappropriate sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl.William Joseph Seagroves, 34, of Jonesborough, Tenn., was indicted by the Sullivan County Grand Jury with one count of sexual battery by an authority figure March 31. He is accused of having inappropriate sexual contact with a 16-year-old girl on May 23, 2008.Seagroves was arrested April 13 then released on a $30,000 bond. He was arraigned Friday and has a pretrial hearing set for 1:30 p.m. July 10.Seagroves started teaching at Sullivan Central in January 2006. He resigned from this position Oct. 23 after an investigation of accusations he sent inappropriate text messages to one of his students, who was 16 at the time was made public. According to the Herald Courie's report Seagroves also was accused of making “flirty gestures [and] sexual comments” to the student and touching her breast.
