Kingsport police officer, Church Hill woman injured in rear-end collision

Staff Report • Apr 28, 2009 at 12:00 AM

A Kingsport police officer and a Church Hill woman both suffered minor injuries in a rear-end collision on Center Street in Kingsport early Tuesday morning.

Kingsport Police Department Sergeant Todd Harrison, who was driving a Dodge Intrepid that belongs to the city, had slowed for a vehicle in front of him that was waiting to make a lefthand turn, according to Sullivan County Sheriff's Deputy Ty Steadman.

Audrey Ryan, 63, 112 Kay Ave., Church Hill, was traveling westbound behind Harrison in a Pontiac Solstice.

When Harrison slowed down, Ryan checked her side mirror to see if she could go around. That's when the Solstice struck the Intrepid, according to Steadman.

Both she and Harrison were taken to Wellmont's Holston Valley Medical Center to be checked out. According to Steadman, neither of them were seriously injured.

No charges are expected to be placed.
