Morristown police officer put on leave, sources say TBI investigating drug allegations

The Morristown Citizen is reporting that a police officer assigned to the Hamblen County School system was placed on administrative leave last week after allegations surfaced about his alleged involvement in possible criminal activity.The Morristown City Council will decide on Tuesday whether the officer, Barry Hardin, will be fired, according to Morristown Police Chief Roger Overholt.Hardin, a 13-year MPD veteran, is the target of related ongoing investigations being conducted by the police department’s Internal Affairs Unit and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, according to Overholt.Numerous sources familiar with the case say Hardin’s being placed on administrative leave involves the prescription painkiller OxyContin.Hardin began work at as a school resource officer at Morristown-Hamblen High School East in 2007. Overholt said the "current allegations" do not involve students and were unrelated to his duties as an SRO.CLICK HERE for the full report.
