Teacher facing 10 sex charges

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel a longtime Campbell County school teacher will be arraigned Monday in Jacksboro on a variety of charges that include sexual misconduct with 13- and 14-year-old girls.Harolyn Dean Branam, 55, is to appear at 8:30 a.m. in Campbell County Circuit Court. He is free on $10,000 bond."We intend to plead not guilty," said Branam's attorney, Mike Hatmaker. He declined further comment.Branam turned himself in last week, after a 10-count indictment against him that includes three charges of sexual battery by an authority figure. That offense includes touching intimate parts, either directly or through clothing, Assistant District Attorney General Scarlett Ellis said.The indictment identifies three girls - two 13-year-olds and a 14-year-old - with whom Branam is alleged to have engaged in such conduct.The indictment also charges seven misdemeanor offenses that involve "physical contact (that) a reasonable person would regard as extremely offensive or provocative." Those allegedly occurred with the three girls identified in the sexual battery counts and with four other girls, one of whom is 12, one of whom is 13 and two of whom are 14.
