Burglary suspect dies after leap from overpass while running from police

According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, a burglary suspect running form Knoxville police died after jumping from a North Knoxville overpass today.Officers first saw the man, who a witness described as being in his mid-20s, walking along Interstate 275 North. Police said he matched the description offered by residents of a reported home burglary several blocks away.The News Sentinel quotes Capt. Gary Holliday saying the officers coaxed the suspect into their police cruiser in an attempt to get off the interstate to a safer area, out of traffic, to talk to him. When they reached the off-ramp at Woodland Avenue and opened the door to interview the suspect, who was not under arrest, and after a struggle "he basically just bolted from the officers," Holliday said.
