According to an incident report from the Kingsport Police Department, the man was upset that his dog was not ready for release after being held for treatment.
Police were alerted to the incident by a clerk at Kroger, 1664 E. Stone Drive. About 11:45 a.m., a female told the clerk to call police because her boyfriend was upset and she wanted away from him.
In the grocery store’s parking lot, a responding officer located the woman and her boyfriend, later identified as Sterling Glenn Green, 39, of Marietta Street, Kingsport. As the officer approached the couple and asked if everything was all right, Green began yelling and cursing and refused to calm down.
According to police, the female was hesitant to admit asking the clerk to call police, as Green was standing nearby. The officer reported he was unable to separate the two due to Green’s aggressive attitude, and Green claimed he was “set up” by Indian Ridge Animal Hospital.
The police report says Green continued to take aggressive stances toward the officer and refused to give his name or show identification. He allegedly told police if they were going to take him to jail, “then do it.”
After hearing the officer radio for backup, Green placed his hand behind his back and agreed to be arrested.
As police searched Green, he allegedly said, “When I get out, you’ll be working felony on me.”
According to police, Green then stated he was going to shoot people at Indian Ridge Animal Hospital.
Green’s girlfriend told police that he indeed owned a gun. She informed them that Green was upset because the veterinarian staff was treating their dog and did not have it ready for release earlier Monday morning.
Police contacted Indian Ridge Animal Hospital, which confirmed Green had been in the lobby cursing. At one point he also began arguing with another client. Both the manager at Indian Ridge and Kroger advised police to tell Green not to return to their respective businesses.
According to the KPD incident report, Green was taken to the Kingsport jail and booked for safekeeping. He has been charged with disorderly conduct.
