Single-car wreck sends one to hospital

Staff Report • Mar 1, 2009 at 12:00 AM

COLONIAL HEIGHTS — A Sullivan County woman was hospitalized Sunday evening after the car she was driving left the roadway, went through a fence and struck a utility pole on Fort Henry Drive near the Fordtown Road intersection.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper David Osborne said the woman, identified as Mary O’Neal, no age and address available, was the driver and lone occupant of a red four-door sedan traveling south on Forth Henry Drive shortly before 7 p.m. when the accident occurred.

The driver was pinned in the vehicle for about 45 minutes while rescuers, including the Warriors Path Volunteer Fire Department and Kingsport Lifesaving Crew, extricated her. She was transported to Holston Valley Medical Center, and although her injuries were described as non-life-threatening, her condition was not available.

The cause of the accident had not been determined late Sunday. “We’ll have to talk to her at the hospital and see what she says happened,” Osborne said.
