Police identify women killed in Wednesday crash; car flipped into Horse Creek

Kingsport Police have released the identities of two women killed in a Wednesday afternoon crash.

The victims are Janice L. Callahan, 67, 1139 Ward Place Private Drive, and passenger, Gwendolyn Maxwell, 60, 3929 Lynda Lane Apartment B. They were eastbound on Ward Place in a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass when the crash occurred about 3:10 p.m.

They were taken to Holston Valley Medical Center and later pronounced dead. Police say Callahan was driving over Horse Creek Bridge when her car exited and flipped onto its top in the creek.

Police said Wednesday that the Oldsmobile first struck the left railing then struck and went over the right railing.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
