A Sullivan County man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly attacked his pregnant wife, threatening to kill her and her unborn child.

On Monday Sullivan County deputies responded to 321 Hidden Valley Road, near Kingsport. The victim, Martha Slemp, told officers that her husband, Gregory Scott Slemp, 37, became irate after finding pictures of her ex-boyfriend.

According to the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office, Slemp told his wife he was going to kill her. Although she was holding the couple's four-month-old child, Slemp began punching her in the face and knocked her to the floor.

The victim told police that as she attempted to leave the residence, Slemp picked up a bottle and a boot and continued assaulting her. Police say that when her husband grabbed the four-month-old, the victim ran outside and fell down, and Slemp kicked her again.

Slemp then left the home in his truck, leaving the four-month-old behind.

Martha Slemp received injuries to her head, face, neck, back, arms and legs. The four-month old had unspecified head and chest injuries, according to police. Medical staff could not take x-rays of the victim, Martha Slemp, due to her being pregnant.

Thursday evening Slemp turned himself in at the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office.

Slemp remains at the Sullivan County Correction Facility without bond, charged with two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
