Erwin man charged with aggravated assault

Johnson City police arrested an Erwin man who police said hit an 80-year-old man with a stick inside the elderly man’s home Tuesday afternoon.

Nathan James McNalley, 28, 326 Love St., was apprehended in Erwin by police there after the alleged assault occurred in Johnson City. McNalley was charged with aggravated assault and especially aggravated burglary. According to a police report, Carl E. Elrod was inside his South Roan Street home when an acquaintance, Marry Ann Garland, stopped by to use his phone.

While she was inside the residence, her husband, McNalley, kicked open the front door and entered the house with a stick in his hand.

Witnesses reported that McNalley hit Elrod in the head with the stick.

McNalley and Garland left the residence and argued outside before McNalley left in his truck, police said. Elrod was transported to Johnson City Medical Center where he was treated for a severe laceration to his head, police said.

Erwin police arrested McNalley and turned him over to Johnson City police. He’s jailed on a $100,000 bond and will be arraigned on the charges today in General Sessions Court.
