Tennessee's jobless rate drops, but so do the number of people looking for jobs

According to the Tennessean, the state's unemployment rate fell in November from a peak reached earlier this fall, but overall employment also dropped, signaling that most of those job seekers had stopped looking, and not found new work.But even with fewer people looking, the state's unadjusted unemployment rate is still two percentage points higher than a year ago, according to data released Thursday by the state Department of Labor & Workforce Development.The seasonally adjusted Nov. rate was 6.9 percent, down one-tenth from Oct., but more importantly, observers said, the labor force also shrank by 17,400 workers. Data for MSA, counties and cities is scheduled for release next week.
