Sullivan County school bus involved in minor collision; no serious injuries reported

Staff Report • Dec 19, 2008 at 12:00 AM

A Sullivan County school bus transporting students home from Colonial Heights Middle School was involved in a crash shortly before noon. According to officials, no one was seriously injured.

Five of the dozen or so children aboard the bus were taken to Holston Valley Medical Center to be checked as a precaution, according to a Sullivan County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

The wreck occurred around 11:15 a.m. when a 2006 Honda Civic driven by Dale Glenn, 62, struck the school bus in the rear tire area on the driver’s side of the bus after the school bus pulled onto Green Hills Drive, according to a Sullivan County Sheriff's Office spokesman.

The bus was driven by Clarence Taylor, 62.

Sullivan County Schools Safety Supervisor Jerry McMahan said the children were headed home after Sullivan County Schools dismissed early today, the final day of classes before Christmas break.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
