The woman's husband and another witness attempted to stop the suspect, who squirmed out of his shirt to get away. However, the discarded clothing contained paperwork that identified the suspect, and assisted in his arrest.
The incident occurred about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of P&S Pharmacy, 613 Watagua St., Kingsport. According to a report from Kingsport Police, a woman said she was attacked by a white male as she exited the pharmacy with her husband’s prescriptions.
The woman was knocked to the ground in the ensuing struggle, suffering scrapes and bruises. The woman's husband, who had been waiting in a nearby car, became involved in another struggle with the robber. A bystander came to the husband's assistance, but the suspect escaped their grasps by squirming out of his insulated shirt. He left the scene in a silver Mitsubishi Mirage.
Kingsport Police located the Mitsubishi in the area of Cloud Apartments. They spoke with the car's owner, who advised James "Jimmy" Light had been using the vehicle. Light was already a person of interest in the case, as the shirt left in the P&S parking lot contained paperwork with the same name.
The owner of the Mitsubishi told police that Light was currently in another vehicle, en route to a home on Forest Street. Police assembled a photo lineup to show the robbery victim and witness, with each positively identifying Light as the suspect.
Light, 39, of 1028 Riverside Ave., Kingsport, was located at the home on Forest Street. He was charged with robbery and arrested without incident. He is currently held in the Kingsport City Jail.
