County committee calls for Hamblen County constable's resignation

The Morristown Citizen-Tribune is reporting that the Hamblen County Ethics Committee has supported asking Paul King to resign as constable.King and former county commissioner Frank Parker, have been disciplined by County Mayor David Purkey for their actions in a criminal case. The two county employees were accused of taking $750 from a mentally challenged man in return for getting the man’s car out of the sheriff’s impound lot.Parker was granted diversion on the criminal charges, while King pleaded guilty to theft under $500.The county mayor demoted Parker to a maintenance technician position had cut his salary by about $10,000. Before the demotion he was the director of Cherokee Park.King, who was a park manager, was demoted to a Sanitation Worker I position and his pay was cut by about $4,000.
