Tenn. Department of Safety audit cites lax management, forgery, theft

According to a report in the Tennessean, lax management at the state Department of Safety led to theft, forgery and the possibility that employees could fraudulently alter driver's license records without detection. , according to an audit released Thursday.
The report quotes a Tennessee Comptroller's report released Thursday as the latest suggestion of problems at the department that is charged with enforcing traffic laws and ensuring motorist and handgun safety across the state.
The audit report also noted that the department does not guard driver's license information adequately and that unauthorized checks of that info from other agencies occurred.
