Police seize $650,000 worth of fake designer goods found in shops at Knox malls

Staff Report • Nov 28, 2008 at 12:00 AM

The Knoxville News Sentinel is reporting that with the 2008 holiday shopping season just around the corner, the halls of West Town and Knoxville Center malls were decked with search warrants as a series of police raids uncovered more than $650,000 worth of counterfeit designer merchandise, authorities said Wednesday.

As a result of the investigation, at least 10 shops in the malls will presumably be a little short of inventory when Black Friday rolls around.

The names of the businesses have yet to be made public, but police say they seized fake handbags, jewelry, sunglasses and designer cell phone cases when they executed search warrants at the 10 mall retail outlets last Thursday.

"Counterfeit copies of purses made by Coach, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Dooney & Bourke, Prada and Gucci were recovered in several businesses," according to Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk.
