Participants donated a total of one hundred and eleven units of blood, and 36 participants volunteered to be bone marrow donors.
“This particular blood drive was a huge success due to the hard work of Abingdon Police Chief Tony Sullivan, Sheriff’s Office Lieutenant Mike Olinger and the many businesses and individuals who made donations of prizes, food and other items to the drive,” Newman said, adding, “The community support was overwhelming – that support made a huge difference in the success of the blood drive.”
The donations came from the community and from members of local law enforcement including the Washington County Virginia Sheriff's Office, Bristol Virginia Sheriff’s Office, Abingdon Police Department, Virginia State Police, Department of Corrections, Southwest Regional Jail.
Members of the federal and state probation and parole Offices along with the Chilhowie Police Department, Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, and U. S. Marshals Service also contributed.
“I can only say one thing to the many persons who made this drive a success,” Newman concluded, “Thank you!”
