Johnson City Mayor Phil Roe will hold a news conference Tuesday to announce he will run for the 1st Congressional District seat now held by incumbent Republican David Davis.

Roe finished fourth in the 2006 GOP congressional primary won by Davis.

A Democrat hasn't held the 1st Congressional District seat in more than 100 years.

Roe is expected to announce his retirement from a 30-year medical practice, followed by the announcement of his candidacy, according to a media advisory.

The GOP Primary will be held August 7.
