GATE CITY — A 64-year-old Nickelsville man was arrested Tuesday while he allegedly tried to sell prescription drugs.

Walter Andrew Hagy was arrested after allegedly attempting to sell drugs along Route 71 near the Thriftway store.

Hagy was charged with selling a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a school and driving under the influence of alcohol. The arrest came as a result of a tip received by officers that a drug transaction was going to take place in Gate City, according to Scott County Sheriff John Puckett. The transaction occurred close to the middle school and high school in Gate City.

Officers staked out the area and watched the transaction being made. Hagy allegedly sold an area man a Schedule III narcotic, said Scott County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigator J.P. Bledsoe.

Hagy allegedly was trying to sell 30 of the pills, which were recovered by officers. Hagy was released on a $6,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Scott County General District Court today for arraignment.
