A city man was arrested Christmas afternoon after he allegedly cut his father with a butcher knife during a family disturbance.

Luke Thomas Hutchinson, 19, 309 Quail Drive, was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Officers responded to the domestic disturbance at the Hutchinson residence at 4:30 p.m. When officers arrived, they said Hal Hutchinson, 57, spoke to them through an upstairs window. He told the officers his son was downstairs and may have a knife.

Officers entered the residence and took Luke Hutchinson into custody.

Hal Hutchinson told officers the incident began when Luke began arguing with his mother. When the mother went into a bedroom, Mr. Hutchinson stopped at the door to the bedroom. He said Luke went to the kitchen and got a butcher knife.

Hal Hutchinson said his armed son came out of the kitchen and advanced toward him. He said his son cut him on the right hand with the knife. He told police he felt his life was in danger.

Luke dropped the knife and ran downstairs just prior to the arrival of the police. Luke was also found in possession of two syringes and a clear plastic bag.
