Newspaper delivery man killed when SUV being chased by police in Greene County hits his car

A man delivering The Knoxville News Sentinel was killed when his car was struck by a stolen vehicle during a police pursuit. CLICK HERE for earlier story.

The Greene County Sheriff's Department says the pursuit began around 5:10 a.m. Sunday when the stolen sport utility vehicle went around a partial police roadblock.

Killed in the wreck was 65-year-old John Franklin Robinette. He had split the route with his wife, Vonda Robinette, who was in another vehicle.

The driver of the SUV, 36-year-old Todd Mathes, was taken to the hospital with his passenger, 44-year-old David Martin. Their conditions were not immediately available.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol says charges are pending against both men.

The Greeneville Sun quoted Greene County Sheriff Steve Burns saying several charges will be filed in the case.
