James Emory Arnold Jr., 25, 1290 War Valley Road, Rogersville, was arraigned Monday in Hawkins County Sessions Court on several charges including two counts of burglary and three counts of theft.
Sheriff Roger Christian said on Thursday shortly before 1:30 a.m. Arnold brought his female companion, Jennifer Arroyo, 26, of Morristown, to the HCMH emergency room for treatment of a broken foot that reportedly had been injured by a vehicle, although no specific details about the injury were available.
While en route, Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. David Lafollette was told via Central Dispatch that an intoxicated man was attempting to leave the hospital in a white pickup. When Lafollette arrived at the scene he found Arnold outside the emergency room, but Arnold denied driving the pickup.
A check of the vehicle registration revealed the pickup had been reported stolen in Greene County. Among the contents of the pickup was a purse with Arroyo’s medication.
Arroyo later gave a statement that Arnold had given her a ride to the hospital in the pickup.
Among the other contents of the pickup were several radios, a chain saw and other tools. Later Thursday morning, two individuals reported their vehicles being burglarized while parked at the boat ramp on Tunnel Hill Road near Rogersville. In both cases the victims picked their stolen property from the items found in the stolen pickup.
Specifically, Arnold was charged with theft over $1,000 for the pickup as well as theft over $500, theft under $500 and two counts of burglary.
Investigators are now looking for Arroyo to speak with her again about being a witness in the case but have been unable to contact her since Thursday.
