KINGSPORT — Model City shoppers have a brand new Target with a Starbucks, Pizza Hut Express, pharmacy and some groceries.

Located in the new Kingsport Pavilion at 2626 E. Stone Drive, Target held a soft opening Wednesday, Oct. 10, following a friends and family event Tuesday, Oct. 9. The grand opening is set for today, Oct. 14.

Matt Klucher, the manager or store team leader, said the store is about twice the size of the 10-year-old Johnson City store. The Kingsport store, according to Target Corp. spokeswoman Anna Goeppinger, is 127,000 square feet.

Target opened a store in Bristol, Va., in July and has more than 1,500 stores in 47 states, with almost $60 billion in annual revenues, making it the fifth largest retailer by sales revenues in the United States.

The Kingsport Target employs about 180 people, and applications are still being taken. The Kingsport store is among more than 60 new Target stores to have grand openings Oct. 14.

The store’s normal operating hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

“We’re just really excited to be here in Kingsport,” said Klucher.

The store will feature groceries, including a full selection of dry goods, dairy and frozen foods.
