ROGERSVILLE — A Rogersville man was arraigned Monday in Hawkins County Sessions Court on one count of attempted second-degree murder stemming from a stabbing that occurred last week.

Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office deputies were summoned to the emergency room of Hawkins County Memorial Hospital Thursday night regarding Shane Taylor, 200 Arrowhead Drive, Apt. 12, Rogersville, who was being treated for a stab wound to the neck.

Taylor told deputies that he’d been at a residence on Ross Circle Road in Rogersville when he got involved in an altercation with Benjamin Daniel Brooks, 25, 777 Cave Springs Road, Rogersville.

Witnesses told police that Brooks was intoxicated, creating a disturbance, and went outside and hit Taylor. According to a HCSO report, Taylor then attempted to walk away and Brooks hit him again.

At that point a fight began between the two, Taylor reportedly knocked Brooks to the ground and told him to stop.

“Witnesses state Mr. Brooks then got up and ran into the residence and came back out with a kitchen knife,” HCSO Detective Jeff Greer stated in the arrest warrant. “Witnesses heard Mr. Brooks yell at Mr. Taylor, ‘I’ll kill you.’ He then stabbed Mr. Taylor in the left side of his neck.

“Witnesses pulled Mr. Brooks off Mr. Taylor and chased him away.”

Taylor received stitches and was treated and released for the knife wound. Brooks remained lodged in the Hawkins County Jail on Monday without bond.
