Sullivan County deputies are investigating the Monday night shooting death of a man in Bloomingdale.

According to a police press release, Tony Satterfield, 24, died at a Kingsport hospital from gunshot wounds he suffered at 356 Brookside Drive CLICK HERE FOR MAP.

Deputies were sent to the Brookside Drive residence at 10:15 p.m. to check out reports of a burglary in progress.

The homeowner, Roy Wilson, told deputies he had shot an acquaintance during an argument that turned physically violent.

While deputies were interviewing Wilson, the Kingsport Police Department sent officers to Indian Path Hospital to investigate a report of a man brought to the hospital with gunshot wounds. The man, Tony Satterfield, died after being transported from IPH to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment.

Lieutenant Joey Strickler with the Sullivan County Sheriff's Office's Criminal Investigation Division is investigating the shooting.

Strickler said Tuesday they have interviewed several people in an attempt to find out what happened at the Brookside Drive home. “It’s still under investigation and we’re looking for the motive behind it. There’s not been any arrests made,” Strickler said.

Based on what they do know at this point, Strickler did say that whatever happened, it “wouldn’t be considered a home invasion” because Wilson and Satterfield were acquaintances.

Currently, Strickler said investigators are looking for a motive. “We’re trying to figure out exactly what transpired at the time of the shooting,” Strickler said.

“We know that there was some type of an altercation and we’re just trying to come to grips with what actually precipitated the events.”

At this point in the investigation, although Strickler said they haven’t determined exactly what caused Wilson to shoot at Satterfield, he confirmed that there’s no evidence to indicate that Satterfield shot at Wilson first.

Investigators expect to have more information in the next day or so, Strickler concluded.
