ROGERSVILLE - A Hawkins County mother is facing several charges including felony child abuse after members of the Hawkins County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit allegedly found a meth lab in her home this past weekend, which was in the midst of a "cook."

Shortly after midnight Saturday HCSO Narcotics Unit deputies responded to the home of Natasha Nichole Massengill, 22, 135 Elbow City Road, Rogersville, after receiving an anonymous tip that methamphetamine was being manufactured at the residence.

Upon arriving at the residence, deputies immediately detected the odor that a meth lab makes, and the deputies knocked on Massengill's door. According to the arrest warrant, Massengill answered the door with her 2-year-old child.

Deputies asked for consent to search the residence and vehicle for narcotics, and Massengill reportedly signed a release form.

According to reports, deputies found several items throughout the house that are indicators of meth use and manufacturing. There were several empty blister packs of ephedrine products as well as homemade aluminum foil pipes and plastic baggies.

On the back porch deputies allegedly located what was described as a small meth lab in the midst of a cook. According to the arrest warrant, there were also several meth lab components in and around the home including Drano crystals, starting fluid, lithium strips, aluminum foil, muriatic acid and rubber tubing.

More drug paraphernalia including pipes was allegedly found in Massengill's vehicle.

The 2-year-old child was taken to the Hawkins County Memorial Hospital emergency room for a medical evaluation before being placed in the custody of the Department of Children's Services.

Aside from felony child abuse, Massengill was charged with manufacturing meth, possession of Schedule II narcotics, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

She is scheduled for arraignment in Hawkins County Sessions Court on Aug. 1.
