A rollover crash closed a portion of Center Street in front of City Hall before noon Monday, according to Kingsport Police Department Officer Bobby Schmutzler.

Ray Leeper, of Kingsport, was driving east on Center in a 1997 Mitsubishi when he apparently drifted into the parking lane near Shelby Street, Schmutzler said.

Leeper then swerved miss a full-size Dodge pickup truck but clipped the side, which caused the rollover, Schmutzler said.

The truck also rolled into a vehicle parked in the next spot, said Schmutzler.

The road was closed because Leeper had to be extricated from the vehicle, which rested on its top just across the center line.

Leeper was taken to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment of his injuries, which were believed to be non-life-threatening.

The road was reopened after the scene was cleared of debris.

Schmutzler added that the investigation is ongoing, as it's not clear what factors may have contributed to Leeper drifting into the parking lane.
