Suspect in Abingdon, Bristol Virginia robberies apprehended

A Bristol, Tenn. man is charged in connection to two robberies in Washington County, VA.

Jonathan Wayne Smith, 24, of Marlene Drive in Bristol, Tenn., is currently being held at the Bristol Virginia City Jail.

The first robbery was in the early morning hours of April 30 at the Midway Chevron on Lee Highway in Bristol.

The suspect reportedly fled in a red pickup truck.

In the early morning hours of May 15, a second robbery ocurred at the Roadrunner Market in Abingdon, also on Lee Highway.

“The description of the suspect and the vehicle that the suspect fled in matched both robberies, said Sheriff Fred Newman.

“With good investigative work and assistance from Bristol Virginia and Bristol Tennessee Police Departments, we were able to make this arrest.

Smith’s trial date is set for July 25 in the Washington County General District Court.
