Single-vehicle Kingsport wreck kills Johnson City man

Timesnews.net Staff • May 16, 2007 at 12:00 AM

A Johnson City man was killed early Wednesday morning when his 2006 Jeep flipped several times on an interstate on-ramp.

According to Kingsport Police, David W. Byerley, 36, was traveling west on Interstate 26 about 1:25 Wednesday morning. He exited via the ramp to Interstate 81 north towards Bristol at an excessive speed, going off the roadway on the left side of the ramp.

Police say it appears Byerley then overcorrected his Jeep, causing it to flip several times and eject him from the vehicle. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Alcohol is also being considered as a factor in the crash.
