GREENEVILLE - An elderly woman was seriously injured when a pickup truck ran off the road and crashed into her bedroom early Monday morning, police said.

Kate Holt, 86, was taken to Johnson City Medical Center with major head injuries.

David Gibbs, 23, lost control of his truck and drove across an open field, struck and snapped in half a large tree, smashed the rear corner of Holt's home and came to rest against another tree.

The accident was still under investigation but charges of vehicular assault were pending against Gibbs, Police Capt. Michael Sauls said.
