According to Johnson City Police, three city residents were arrested about 8 p.m. Thursday night. Each are charged with three counts of aggravated robbery for their alleged role in crimes at Stop-In Market, Roadrunner Market and Wendy's.
Dustin A. Hyatt, 22 years, 1208 Old Stage Road, Christopher G. Hyatt, 20, same address, and Richard K. Mahara, 21, No. 5 Trivette Concourse, Apartment No. 4, are scheduled to appear in General Sessions Court today. They will be arraigned on the Stop-In Market robbery in Carter County General Sessions Court at a later date.
On April 12, two men brandishing semiautomatic handguns entered Roadrunner Market, 1310 Cherokee Road, making off with cash and cigarettes. The men wore hooded jackets and covered their faces with bandannas, police said.
Then, on Sunday night, two white men dressed in hooded sweatshirts and armed with a handgun came into Stop In Market, 3211 S. Roan St., and demanded money. The robbers were described as being in their 20s, each about 6 feet tall and weighing somewhere around 150 pounds -- similar to information obtained from the Roadrunner robbery.
The alleged robbers last known hit was Wendy's on Peoples Street, just before 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. Two armed men with their faces partially covered and wearing hoods ordered all employees except the manager into a walk-in cooler. They then forced the manager to open cash registers and a safe, took money and fled the scene.
Again, victims provided descriptions that closely matched suspects in the first two robberies. Despite initial reports that IHOP on Peoples Street was also robbed, authorities later confirmed only Wendy's was hit.
