JOHNSON CITY - A Johnson City woman was in critical condition Friday night after a domestic incident left her suffering from serious head injuries.

About 4:45 p.m. Friday, police received word of some kind of traffic crash with injuries in the 2300 block of Greenwood Drive.

When officers arrived, they discovered 29-year-old Frances Elizabeth Berry, 603 Carter Sells Road, No. 3, lying in the roadway.

According to witnesses, Berry and her boyfriend, Christopher M. Vigil, 35, of the same address, had been arguing in a vehicle prior to traveling onto Greenwood Drive.

At some point, Berry apparently tried to get out of the vehicle but Vigil, who was behind the wheel, forced her to stay inside the car, police said.

A short time later, Berry was found lying in the roadway with massive injuries to her head. Investigators said Berry suffered the injuries as a result of a fall from the moving vehicle.

She was transported to Johnson City Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition Friday night.

Vigil reportedly had left the scene of the incident prior to officers' arrival.

After locating Vigil a short time later, investigators charged him with especially aggravated kidnapping and leaving the scene of an accident.

Vigil was being held in the Washington County Detention Center on $60,000 bond and is scheduled for an initial appearance in sessions court on Tuesday.
