Construction workers have found the battered victim of a car crash -- about six hours after the incident occurred -- and police are searching for the driver responsible who ran away from the wreck.

According to Kingsport police, at about 3:15 a.m. a westbound Chevrolet van slammed in to a railroad overpass on West Stone Drive, at the North Fork of the Holston River. Responding emergency personnel found one occupant of the van at the scene, and took the victim to Holston Valley Medical Center for treatment.

The vehicle's owner, Danny Morrison, is believed to have been thrown through the windshield. However, police have yet to locate Morrison, and are searching for him. They reportedly have two addresses where he might be. Alcohol is being considered as a factor in the crash.

About six hours later a construction crew found another disoriented wreck victim on Big Elm Road, near the scene of the crash.

Police say the man suffered head injuries in the wreck, walked train tracks crossing the river and then down an embankment to the roadway, which runs below the bridge on West Stone Drive.

He was also taken to Holston Valley Medical Center. Both he and the other passenger will be held overnight for observation.
