The Hawkins County Sheriff's Office charged Shawn Daniel Edwards, 25, 1565 Lawrence Street, Lot No. 1, Kingsport, with two counts of narcotics possession and destroying evidence after Edwards allegedly began eating hydrocodone while awaiting transfer to Sullivan County authorities.
Edwards was arrested by HCSO Deputy Lynn Campbell Tuesday morning at the scene of a disturbance in Church Hill after it was discovered he had pending warrants in Sullivan County. Campbell stated in his report that Edwards was handcuffed, placed in the cruiser, and transported to the Hawkins/Sullivan county line. Campbell said Edwards was talkative throughout the trip.
But when Edwards stopped talking, Campbell noticed he had a blue chalky substance in his mouth and around his lips.
Three blue oval pills believed to be hydrocodone were then found in the patrol car seat.
Campbell also allegedly found eight Xanax pills in Edwards' possession. The transfer was canceled, and Edwards was taken to Hawkins County Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation before being taken to the Hawkins County Jail.
