Jerry Shad Roberts, 29, 186 Walnut Lane, Fall Branch, was arrested Monday after investigators discovered drugs in Roberts' school-owned vehicle, the Washington County Sheriff's Office reported.
On Tuesday, Washington County Director of Schools Grant Rowland said Roberts had been suspended without pay pending the completion of an investigation into the arrest.
Rowland said he knew few details about the incident, although he was aware that Roberts had been arrested near the guard shack on the Crockett campus.
Investigator William Gregg said the sheriff's office had been investigating Roberts for about two weeks.
The office had received tips regarding the guard's alleged activities on the Crockett campus, prompting surveillance and a background check, Gregg said.
On Monday, investigators were following up on another case near Crockett and saw the guard sitting with a second man on campus, Gregg said.
As investigators turned around to approach the campus, the second man left on a motorcycle toward the school, Gregg said. Roberts gave investigators consent to search his school pickup truck, where they found 2.5 grams of marijuana and a glass pipe packed with the drug in the console, Gregg said.
The second man was not charged.
Following the arrest, Roberts gave the sheriff's office consent to search his residence, where investigators discovered another 9 grams of marijuana along with scales, pipes and other paraphernalia, Gregg said.
The guard was charged with possession of Schedule VI drugs for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of Schedule IV drugs.
Roberts was being held Tuesday in the Washington County Detention Center following a hearing in sessions court.
