The event is the second annual Explore Your Future event at the college's Blountville campus.
The public can meet with representatives from a variety of regional companies anytime between 1 and 7 p.m.
Company representatives will be available throughout the afternoon to talk with each attendee individually about employment and educational requirements.
"It exceeded our expectations," said Barbara Albright, administrator of learning and development for BAE Systems, which will participant again in this year's event. "Being a new venture for Northeast State and for us, we didn't know whether we'd have two people."
Spearheaded by the college's offices of Admissions and Enrollment Services, the event was open to the general public, bringing more than 350 area residents to the Blountville campus.
In addition to BAE, this year's participating companies and organizations include American Electric Power, American Water Heater, the Bachman Car Dealership, Bristol Tennessee Essential Services, Bush Hog, Eastman Chemical Co., Eastman Credit Union, Edwards & Associates, Frontier Health, Holston Medical Group, James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Kingsport Police Department, Koyo, Mountain States Health Alliance, Northeast Correctional Complex, Nuclear Fuel Services, NETWORKS – Sullivan Partnership, the Tennessee Valley Authority, Touchstone Wireless, Wellmont Health System, Domtar Paper Co. (formerly Weyerhaeuser) and the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.
The event is not a job fair but an informational session where local employers highlight the skills they need to fill future employment positions.
The event demonstrates how higher education enhances career options and the earning power of students.
"This was way better than I think any of us had expected," said Sharon Dietrich, Eastman staffing manager. "I would do it every year."
The event is open to everyone from recent high school graduates to adults looking to extend their education and improve their current employment situation.
